Full-Featured Technical Pack
Simply put, we love Cotopaxi gear. Cotopaxi products are thoughtfully designed and ruggedly constructed, and the Inca backpacks are no exception. The Inca 16L is a full-featured technical day pack that features streamlined design and great on-trail comfort. (Looking for a larger pack? Check out the Cotopaxi Inca 26L for roomier storage and even more features.)
This cookset comes equipped with a non-stick frying pan, pot strainer lid and serving bowls for cooking up just about anything tasty at camp. We had one of these sets, and loved it, but it fell victim to a trio of black bears a few years ago. For a mind-blowing dose of YUM, flip buttermilk pancakes on the fry pan on a chilly morning atop a beautiful mountain. Cover with warm maple syrup. It’s magical.
This super lightweight half zip pullover is perfect for those misty mornings on the trail. With a poly shell, drawcord hem and elastic cuffs and hood, wind and rain stay out, and we stay warm and dry. They come in several stylish colors, sport a classic, slim fit and feature a mesh pocket pouch in front, perfect for stashing our phone and keys. And the jacket stuffs into the front pocket for easy travel and packing.
This lightweight backpacking and camping chair combines stability and comfort with light weight and durability. REI designed the Flexlite to compete with the weight and comfort of name-brand lightweight backpacking chairs at a fraction of the cost. It’s our go-to chair for backpacking, camping, or in-town events.
The Jetboil system is genius in design: an insulated mug attaches to a super high effiency stove for fast, convenient cooking and water boiling on the hiking trail. The system attaches directly to a fuel canister for quick and easy setup. And features like a built-in handle and a temperature indicator make this our favorite backpacking cooking system.
Jake, our Labrador Retriever pup, loves nothing more the trail! But he struggles with the heat and humidity of our Georgia summers. We used the Ruffwear Swamp Cooler this summer, and were blown away by the results. The Swamp Cooler is a jacket that acts like a giant sponge; when wet, it keeps him cool, thanks to water evaporation. The light color of the vest also reflects the sun’s heat, which is especially great for a dog with black fur.
Running with the Pack
Forget the bulky packs that make tight trails a difficult pass: Ruffwear’s Singletrak dog hydration pack is low-profile, allowing Jake to squeeze through tight spaces without trouble. And tough, durable canvas construction has held up flawlessly to Jake’s rambunctious romps on trail.
