The Batac features plenty of space for snacks and water, extra layers, books, tablets, and other small gadgets and supplies. Our favorite backpacks for hiking and travel: the Cotopaxi Batac 16L Del Dia is colorful, fun and verstatile, perfect for just about any adventure

Our trail-tested Cotopaxi Batac review

Constructed of high-quality nylon fabric remnants and each colorfully designed by its fabricator, the Batac features the same vibrant, unique style as the slightly larger Luzon with a few notable differences. Unlike the Luzon, the Batac features a zippered closure to secure the main compartment, and adds a separate zippered pocket on the front complete with mesh storage area. We’ve loved hiking with our Luzon pack – and equally love the slightly more streamlined and travel-friendly features of the Batac. It’s another fully trail-worthy addition to Cotopaxi’s fantastic backpack line that easily spans trail to town, and pretty much everywhere in between.

Equally travel-worthy and trail-worthy: our Cotopaxi Batac backpack review

Inside, the 16-liter pack features plenty of room for hiking essentials, a rain shell, or books and gadgets, with space to spare. A dedicated internal sleeve is perfect for stashing a tablet, notebooks, or other small items. And the backpack’s zippered mesh pocket offers a great place to stash small stuff, like a wallet, keys, cellphone, and snacks.

Every one is colorfully unique: our review of the Batac 16L Del Dia backpack from Cotopaxi, perfect for hiking, travel, or campus

The front of the pack features a smaller zippered compartment with a mesh camera or phone pocket to keep the essentials close at hand. The exterior also features a vertical strip of stitched fabric loops perfect for lashing extra gear like dog bowls, flip-flops, or water bottles with a carabiner. The Batac also features two fabric mesh side pockets that are perfect to stash a Nalgene bottle or travel mug filled with coffee for the commute.

Two comfortable, lightweight, perforated fabric shoulder straps increase ventilation and keep our shoulders dry when temps and activity increase. The shoulder straps also feature an adjustable chest strap for a customized fit and security. We’ve worn the backpack on day-long adventures through airports and long day hikes, and have been thoroughly impressed by the comfort of the straps.

Lightweight padded straps and plenty of cargo room, the Cotopaxi Batac backpack is a 16L, colorful daypack that's perfect for hiking, travel, school, or around town

The Batac’s unstructured construction lets it pack up small for easy storage and packing. It’s the perfect size to stash in a larger bag or suitcase when traveling, for use as a day bag when a full-size pack isn’t the right choice. And it makes a great summit pack for backpacking adventures, too.

More of our Del Dia favorites

Cotopaxi offers an entire line in the colorful Del Dia style. The Luzon 18L offers a bit of extra space and a top cinch closure, perfect for day trips and light days on the trail. The Nazca 24L packs a weekend worth of adventure into a suitcase-style bag, complete with padded laptop sleeve. And the Dopp Kit keeps all of our toiletries neat and organized when on the road.
